HELP CHANGE OUTDATED STEREOTYPES:

LoveandMarij.com was created as part of the movement to shatter outdated stereotypes by sharing imagery of cannabis being used in upscale settings.

With strength in numbers we can create a social media buzz that will shatter the stereotypes and show the "non-believers" the variety and quality of people that are in support of "Marij Equality."  This will force local, state and federal legislators and local businesses to take new actions towards acceptance of marijuana into society.  By supporting "Marij Equality," you are supporting the right of marijuana to legally be present wherever alcohol can legally be present.

You do not have to be a cannabis user to support the movement!  This petition is for anyone who believes that businesses that can legally permit alcohol consumption on site should have the right to legally permit cannabis consumption on site, should they choose to.

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:

We are asking that all people over the age of 21 that are in support of "Marij Equality" do the following:

1. MAKE A SOCIAL MEDIA POST THAT CHANGES THE CONVERSATION BY:

- Posting a photo of yourself that challenges the outdated stereotype of who cannabis supporters are.

- In your photo description, Humblebrag a fact about yourself that challenges the ignorant beliefs that many people have of cannabis supporters and use the hashtag: #isupportmarijequality.

For Example: "I'm a registered nurse and #isupportmarijequality"  or "I've been to all seven continents and #isupportmarijequality"

Share your travels, trophies and talents!

2. Use the hashtag #isupportmarijequality on social media posts to continue your support of the movement.

3. Please sign the Change.org petition if you are over 21 years of age and would like the right to host or attend a wedding or upscale gathering that responsibly serves legalized, state regulated marijuana in addition to legalized state regulated alcohol.

Together, we can change the conversation!

WHY: RESEARCH SHOWS THAT MARIJUANA IS SAFER THAN ALCOHOL

Recent research published in the journal, Scientific Reports, a subsidiary of Nature, was published earlier this year. Here is what the media reported on it:

NBC News reported: "The safety of marijuana versus booze is not a new claim but, for the first time, researchers measured the potential harm of these drugs in a more quantitative way — that is, by comparing a lethal dose to how much of the substance is typically consumed socially.

Their findings showed the dangers of marijuana "may have been overestimated in the past", while the risk of alcohol has been "commonly underestimated," researchers said."

The Washington Post reported: "Researchers...found that at the level of individual use, alcohol was the deadliest substance, followed by heroin and cocaine.  And all the way at the bottom of the list? Weed — roughly 114 times less deadly than booze, according to the authors, who ran calculations that compared lethal doses of a given substance with the amount that a typical person uses. Marijuana is also the only drug studied that posed a low mortality risk to its users."

NBC News went on to add: "Meanwhile, most experts say there has never been a documented overdose death from marijuana use in someone without an underlying condition."

Meanwhile, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that binge drinking is the leading cause is the leading cause of preventable death: "One in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20–64 years are due to excessive alcohol use. Excessive alcohol use is a leading cause of preventable death. This dangerous behavior accounted for approximately 88,000 deaths per year from 2006–2010, and accounted for 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20–64 years."

THE PROBLEM:

While recreational marijuana is legal in some states, many strict and hypocritical laws prevent cannabis users from being able to recreate with cannabis in places where people are allowed to recreate with alcohol.  Due to these strict laws, many open-minded businesses that CAN legally allow for recreational cannabis use on site often choose NOT to allow it.  They cite reasons such as the financial cost of compliance, fears they may be breaking federal laws and, in many cases, fears that allowing for marijuana consumption will "send the wrong message" to their current customer base.

While marijuana legalization has made great strides, there is still much to learn.  Outdated stereotyping of "stoners" prevents lawmakers and business owners from making informed decisions in favor of cannabis equality.
